Dear Members:
Where did the summer go? Each year seems to move faster and it is hard to believe the kids Katie and Tanner will go back to school on Wednesday. We sure have had some nice weather the past few weeks and it is nice to see the heat go away. Oh well, it is state fair time so I am sure the weather will heat up soon.
Thanks to all who participated in this year’s Ryder Cup. Both Captains (Larry Kleinwolterink and David Wagler) did an outstanding job and fun was had by all. Captain Kleinwolterink and his team captured the cup this year by a margin of 4pts. The weather was fantastic and every year when I see all the carts following the shoot outs and the scene around the final hole it makes me again remember what a special place we have at the LPN.
This week is year two of the Brokers International Iowa Open. This is the first year the field is full with 144 players since the tournament left the LPN 12 years ago. A gigantic thank you to Leroy Oxley, committees, the volunteers and last but most important Roger McCarty and Brokers International. This year’s event is scheduled to bigger and better and I cannot thank you enough for all the support. Spectators are welcome and encouraged.
Hope to see everyone soon.
Until next time……
John Dinnebier
General Manager/Director of Golf

40th Club Championship:
On a day when the weather could not be any better, one player decided to play like it—cool, calm, and salty! Panorama’s “Favorite Sun” wins the 40th Club Championship.
Jaron Smool hung on and went to Sudden Death to edge Ethan Mechling with a par on the first extra hole of the playoff. Jaron Smool, the Senior-to-be at Buena Vista won his first Major Title with rounds of 71-77 and follows an epic, distinguished and storied history over the last 40 years. Jaron’s name will be engraved in Lake Panorama National history and lore for centuries to come.
One spectator during the playoff summed it up best: “Great young man--Great Champion” for Lake Panorama.
“I played great”, said Smool who is playing some of the best golf of his life. “We had great competition for the Championship and I am so proud to be a part of this tradition at Lake Panorama”
Finishing in second was Ethan Mechling, the former All American from Graceland College. Ethan fired rounds of 75-73. After sudden death, Ethan stated “I’ll be back—nobody runs a tournament better than you [Lake Panorama Staff] guys.” Third place finisher was Panorama’s own Matt Mikkelsen who had a two day total of 76-75-141. Fourth Place was Brian Fliehler (152) and multiple past champion Bill Douglass (152).
In the Senior Division, Mike Mumma from Jefferson successfully defended his Senior Title Crown with scores of 79-79-158. Runner-up was Leroy Oxley with scores of 82-80-162. Third Place was David Thomas firing 83-84-167.
Denise Norwood also successfully defended her title of Women’s Club Champion with a two day total of 170 (83-87). Runner-Up was Carla Fitzgerald with round of 89-89-178. Third was Deb Douglass with a total of 189.
Will Babcock was Champion in the Junior Division. Will also successfully defended his Title with a 4-over par 40. That was enough to edge George Appleseth who finished with a 42.
