Dear Members:
As we move into the middle of August, I’d like to thank everyone for their great support of Lake Panorama National Resort. Both the golf course and Links Restaurant continues to be busy during the week and even more traffic on the weekends. With great weather conditions in July, I am happy to announce that rounds played for the month exceeded 5600. Golf played during the month is a new all time record for the LPN. The golf course remains in great shape even with all the rounds and I encourage you to enjoy this great golf course during the remainder of the golf season.
This past weekend we held our 15th Annual Irv Gerlich Memorial Ryder Cup. Congratulations to Captain Mark Chew for winning the cup. Everyone involved enjoyed nice weather and great golf for three days including some great shoot-outs. Thank you to all the members that followed the shoot-outs on both Friday and Saturday night, it is wonderful to see such support of this great event. Thank you to the sponsors that help make this event possible whether they donated money or time. And last but not least, thank you to Molly Gerlich for her time spent at Sunday’s final dinner. You are a very special lady.
On Monday, we held the MARS Foundation golf event. Wayne and Marlene Anderson and their family host this special event with proceeds raised benefiting MS. Congratulations to all involved and thank you to the Anderson family.
The following day we were fortunate to be able to host the 10th annual Forward Tee Open that consisted of 36 four gal teams. A great time was had by all, and a special thank you goes out to the committee. Each and every year, this event is one of the most popular and while hitting balls on number 5, I visited with a gal that traveled from Chicago, IL to play in this event. A great event…….
As we continue to move towards the fall season, there is plenty of golf to be played and nights out in the Links. We are starting to book events for 2010 and if you would like to book your golf tournament, wedding, business retreat or other special event for next year, please give me a call. I hope to see everyone enjoying this fine weather on the golf course and afterwards up in the Links Restaurant & Lounge.

The Links Restaurant & Lounge:
The Links Restaurant & Lounge is open to the public. The restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere and quality of service to our patrons. The menu offers a wide selection of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, buffet specials and dinner entrees that are sure to please any person’s taste buds. The Links offers a full service bar and a number of televisions to watch your favorite sport.
The restaurant also has an award winning sandwich in the State of Iowa. The Pork Tenderloin Sandwich was named 1st Runner Up in the Iowa Pork Producers Association Best Breaded Pork Tenderloin contest.We encourage you to enjoy this fine restaurant at the Resort with family, friends and business associates.

Spikes:
Current hours of operation of Spikes are Monday – Friday from 7:00 AM to Close and Saturday & Sunday from 6:30 AM to Close. Stop in for a cold drink, snacks, sandwiches and much more. Enjoy great views of Lake Panorama from the west deck.Hours are subject to change based on day to day weather.
Spikes can also be rented for private parties or events. If you are interested in hosting an event at Spikes, please give John Dinnebier a call at 800-879-1917
Lake Panorama National Inn & Suites:
Lake Panorama National Inn & Suites offers on site lodging accommodations for your stay at the Resort. The lodging facilities overlook the magnificent golf course and are located within walking distance of the Conference Center and Links Restaurant & Lounge.
Lake Panorama National Inn & Suites offers two bedroom/two bathroom town homes or motel units that feature two double beds or one queen bed. All guests at the Resort have access to the many amenities the Resort offers.

Fitness & Exercise Room:

Saturday: 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Sunday: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
The fitness & exercise room currently has ten machines that will help you improve your health and fitness level. You may pay a daily fee to use the fitness room or purchase a membership. Memberships are available for a year, six months, three months, or monthly. Membership categories include single, couple, and family.
Membership information may be obtained by calling 641-755-2080 or by stopping at the lodging desk on the main floor of the Conference Center.
Lake Panorama National Golf Course:
Lake Panorama National Golf Course is the main attraction at the Resort and offers one of the best-conditioned courses in the state of Iowa. In 2008, a double row irrigation system was installed making even better course conditions for players of all skill levels. Golf Digest gives the magnificent golf course a 4-Star Rating on it’s Places to Play in America. The golf course is truly a “must play” course in Iowa.
Lake Panorama National Golf Course is now the host of the Iowa Open Golf Championship. Just recently, the Iowa Section PGA and Brokers International Ltd. signed a five year deal to host the Iowa Open at Lake Panorama. Brokers International Ltd. will be the title sponsor of the championship from 2010 to 2014.
The Brokers International Ltd. Iowa Open will be played August 19 – 22, 2010. The Iowa Section PGA, Brokers International Ltd. and Lake Panorama National Resort are excited to bring the championship back to Lake Panorama National Golf Course.

Friday Couples:
The next Friday Couples is scheduled for Friday, August 14, 2009 with a shotgun start at 5:30 PM. The format for the night is 4-Person Best Shot but with a twist of using string.
Each team is provided with a length of string. The team may move their ball by hand to a more favorable spot at any time, at any place on the course (including on the putting green and into the hole), measuring with the string the distance the ball was moved and then cutting off the equivalent length of string. When the string is used up, the team is on their own.

15th Annual Irv Gerlich Memorial Ryder Cup:
Congratulations to Captain Mark Chew and his team for winning the 15th Annual Irv Gerlich Memorial Ryder Cup. Team Chew took down Captain Dale Hochreiter and his team on Sunday after three days of golf.
Thank you to all the players, spouses and sponsors that participated in this year’s Ryder Cup. Once again, this event was a great success that featured great golf, food and fun for four days. There is nothing like this tournament in the state of Iowa.
The Employee Shoot-Out sponsored by Guthrie County State Bank on Friday night finished in the dark with Justin Smool sinking a 10 footer for birdie on Michael Kleinwolterink to walk away with 1st Place. Jaron Smool finished in 3rd Place.
The Low Gross/Low Net Member Shoot-Out on Saturday night had great excitement again with Jaron Smool rolling in a bomb of a putt on Hole #9 to win the shoot-out with partner Leif Eng. Taking 2nd Place was Bob McCleeary and Ray Johnsen while 3rd Place was Mark Chew and Jeff Godwin.
Congratulations to the 2010 Irv Gerlich Memorial Ryder Cup Captains Gary Smool and Keith Ketchum.
