May 15, 2009 LPN Newsletter

Dear Members:

The golf season is underway and this week marks the beginning of both the Men’s and Ladies leagues with great turnouts for both. It is nice to see members out playing and enjoying the course. As you have seen, the course is in great shape and should continue to get better and better. As you continue to play and tune your game, please do not hesitate to ask any of the professionals: Gary, Mike, or myself if you need any help with your game. We are here to help.

The Links Restaurant continues to be a popular place to dine. It is that time of year when nominations are taken for the Iowa Pork producer’s best tenderloin in the state contest. If you have had one of Mike’s breaded loin sandwiches, I think you would agree that it is the best in the state. Nomination forms are available at the bar and the more forms sent in, the better the odds are for the Links to win. Thanks in advance for any consideration you may give to Mike and his Iowa’s Best Tenderloin.

Last Monday, Lake Panorama National hosted the Iowa PGA Match Play championship with 33 golf professionals competing. Congratulations to Gary Babcock for making it to the elite 8 and I made it to the final match before loosing on the 18th hole. Thanks for all who watched and cheered us on. It was fun for both Gary and I and we appreciate all your support.

What a difference a year makes. Last year at this time we were under construction for both Spikes and irrigation and today we have a beautiful building (thanks to many generous donations), irrigation, new deck, and wonderful fountain on #9. Even in tough economic times, we are holding our own and look forward to a positive year.

As always, your support is the key to the success of the LPN. I am looking forward to a great year.

Sincerely,

John Dinnebier
General Manager/Director of Golf

2009 Golf Memberships:

Your LPN Staff is preparing for another exciting year and looking forward to serving all of you in 2009. Our facility will host numerous Member events just for you and a number of PGA, Senior PGA TOUR, IGA, IWGA, Collegiate and Iowa High School competitions, corporate and charitable outings. Once again, proving LPN is one of the finest facilities in Iowa and is undeniably the choice for those who value a membership that has so much to offer.

As you know, an active membership relies on the support of its members. Your membership is an investment for LPN’s future and we believe an investment that demands a return. That is why the Staff at LPN is working diligently to ensure your 2009 golf season will be the best one ever!

Your Staff is once again accepting a limited amount of Special Memberships as part of our 2009 Membership Drive. This Membership applies to those who were not LPN Members in 2008. This is an excellent opportunity for you to invite new members to our community and have them come to the same conclusions that we have—LPN is a great place to be a Member! You will receive a $50 credit for every new membership you sign-up during the membership drive. You will also receive 2 free rounds of golf upon receipt of your 2009 membership application and payment. You may use these rounds to recruit new members.

In addition to the Special Membership, we are continuing the offer of Distance Memberships for 2009. This Membership applies to those who are not LPA Members and do not have a residence within 18 miles of LPN.

We have finalized our 2009 reciprocal agreements with the following golf courses:

Ames Golf & Country Club
Lake Creek Country Club
Carroll County Club
Fort Dodge Country Club
Indianola Country Club
Brairwood Country Club

The reciprocal agreement is another great benefit of being a LPN Member as it only costs you $15.00 to play any of these golf courses. We hope you take advantage of this great perk in 2009.

Please don’t hesitate to contact the staff if you have questions regarding memberships. We cannot thank you enough for your continued support of LPN as we move into another season.

Click HERE to print off the 2009 LPA / Non Resident Golf Membership Application.

Click HERE to print off the 2009 Distance Golf Membership Application.

The distance golf membership is for individuals and families that are not members of the LPA and reside more than 18 miles from LPN. A family membership is $799.00 while a single membership is $499.00.

Click HERE to print off the 2009 Special Golf Membership Application.

The special golf membership is the best deal in Iowa. If you were not a member of LPN last year, a family membership is $599.00 and a single membership is only $349.00.

Friday Couples:

Friday Couples is scheduled for May 15 and the “format” for the night is 2 Out of 3 Ain’t Bad.

Teams will be playing 4-Person Best Shot on holes #2, #4, #5, #6 , #7 and #9 while a True Alternate Shot on holes #1, #3 and #8. The team will determine the order of play prior to teeing off on each of the three alternate shot holes.

The catch: Upon completion of round, the Golf Staff will eliminate the highest score on the Alternate Shot Holes from each team. Therefore, only 2 of the 3 alternate shot holes will count towards the final score…hense, “2 out of the ain’t bad.”

Please sign up in the pro shop or by calling 641-755-2024. You may pick your foursome or the pro shop staff will create the teams if necessary.

Afterwards, enjoy great food and drinks up at the Links and wait to see if you won gift certificates when the staff announces the winning couples.

2009 Men’s League:

The Men’s League stag was a great success and we are ready for competition this Wednesday. Noon League will be starting at 12:00 PM with tee times between 12:03 – 12:30 PM. Seventeen players will be in the Noon League. The 3:00 PM League will shotgun start at 3:00 with 34 teams and 6:00 PM League will shotgun at 6:00 with 44 teams. Like last year, 6:00 PM League will be using both the front and back nine.

The league scorecards will have your handicap marked on them along with the correct number of “strokes” that you will be giving or receiving from your opponent. If you do not have a handicap established already, we will figure one based on your average score for nine holes. The person with the lowest net score for each individual hole, win’s that hole. The person with the most holes won, win’s the match.

Four flag events will be on the golf course for all three leagues to compete at like we did last year. The winners gift certificates will be at Spikes during check-in each Wednesday night.

After May 13, if you have not paid your Men’s League and Handicap fees, the pro shop will bill them to your member account. Currently there are roughly a dozen players that have not paid their league dues.

2009 Women’s League:

The Women’s League Kickoff dinner was a great success and the league board and LPN staff are ready to get the year started this Thursday.

We will be taking sign ups to play until Thursday at 2:00 PM. Registration for Thursday night will start at 5:00 PM with announcements at 5:15 PM.

The Dinner Special for Thursday night is Hot Beef. New this year is the sign up sheet for the Dinner Special, if you haven’t signed up already, please do so by Thursday at 2:00 PM. This will help the kitchen staff with the amount of food to prepare for each night.
