Dear Members;
As another year comes to a close at Lake Panorama National Resort and Conference Center, I would like to thank you for your support. Thanks to you, the Resort continues to grow, business is good, and golf rounds reached an all time high.
Thank you to those of you who have made donations to fund our First Tee project over the past few weeks. First Tee Project donations continue to arrive each and everyday and we are getting closer to our goal. I am proud to announce that we have collected more then $85,000. I would like to thank the golf advisory committee for all of their hard work on this project. Fay Petersen, Mary Hills, Susan Thompson, Leroy Oxley, Kent Stephenson, and Mark Juhl are doing a wonderful job. A special thanks to Judy Contner for all the hard work she has done during the past months. With your continued support, I am confident we will achieve our goal for the First Tee project.
As we look forward to 2008, I encourage all members and guests to attend an informational meeting on December 19, 2007. This informational meeting will start at 6:00 PM in the Dining Room at the Links Restaurant & Lounge. The informational meeting will allow questions to be asked about the upcoming year, the First Tee Starter Shack, and other questions that you may have. Management staff will be there to go over plans for 2008 and answer questions.
As we approach the holiday season, I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Once again, thank you for your support during 2007. It is a pleasure serving you and I anticipate a great 2008 at Lake Panorama National Resort.
Sincerely,
John Dinnebier GM
A New Building – A New Name:
Dear Friends,
Lake Panorama National Golf Course opened for business 36 years ago with nine holes and the promise of nine more. Sales people brought in trailers to talk to potential lot owners and the dream became a reality. Eight years later two of the trailers were pulled together between the 1st and 10th holes to be used as a starter shack. That “temporary” building has long outlived its usefulness!
Because of a number of infrastructure needs facing the LPA, replacing this building using LPA funds is not expected in the near future. So the Lake Panorama National Advisory Committee has taken the lead on a private fundraising campaign with plans to get this new building open for the 2008 season.
These volunteers have been working with another volunteer, retired architect and LPA resident Bob Vandeventer, on a building design. It includes two covered porches — one on the east with a view of the golf course and one on the west with a view of Lake Panorama. Restrooms on the north will have entrances from both the interior and exterior so these facilities can remain open when the rest of the building is closed. The snack shop section includes more cooler and counter space, making it possible to offer additional food options. The building will have heat and air conditioning for year-round use.
An estimated $150,000 is needed to cover construction and furnishings. We are anxious for you to be a part of this endeavor and there are several ways to do so. A brochure distributed with this letter provides details on individual, in-kind and corporate giving options. There is a form on the reverse side of this letter to complete when making an individual donation. Please consider making a gift of any amount! Every dollar will be appreciated. Those who give $500 or more will be honored on plaques in the new building.
Forms returned by Dec. 15, 2007 that accompany any size individual donation will be entered into a random drawing during the LPN New Year’s Eve party Dec. 31. The winner will receive $500 in 2008 LPN Diners Club credit. We also need a name for the new building! Enter your ideas for a name on the form when you submit your donation. The LPN Advisory Committee will choose the new name from entries and the winner will receive a free family golf membership for 2008!
Lake Panorama National brings dollars to the lake and surrounding area through the multiplier effect — the more dollars spent at the golf course and conference center, the more dollars spent in the community. This is a building that will make Lake Panorama residents and Lake Panorama National members proud, enhancing the appeal of an already beautiful place. Your gift will make it possible.
Let’s do it now!
Your Lake Panorama National Advisory Committee
Lake Panorama National Club Manager Honored:
John Dinnebier, Lake Panorama National Golf Resort and Conference Center general manager and director of golf, has been named 2007 Club Manager of the Year by the Iowa Golf Association (IGA). Dinnebier was presented a plaque in recognition of the honor at the Nov. 27 Lake Panorama Association board of directors meeting.
The presentation was made by LeRoy Oxley of Panora, who is the current IGA president. Oxley said the IGA represents 17,000 golfers and 200 golf clubs in Iowa. He said the IGA board of directors chose Dinnebier for the honor after reviewing nominations submitted by clubs across the state. “John is well-respected. He has always supported the efforts of the IGA and we thank him for that,” Oxley said.
Dinnebier came to Lake Panorama National (LPN) in 1999 as the head golf pro. He was named general manager in 2002, and also was honored that year by the IGA as Golf Pro of the Year. He continued as head pro until 2006.
Panorama National Golf Resort and Conference Center, which is owned by the Lake Panorama Association, includes a championship golf course, conference center, The Links restaurant and lounge, lodging at the LPN Inn and Suites, swimming pool and tennis courts. It is a $2 million annual operation with 80 employees.
Under Dinnebier’s leadership, golf rounds at the course have increased each year since 2003. Dinnebier devised a golf membership drive for 2007, which resulted in 110 new members. The drive helped hold down a dues increase for current members, plus brought more people into the club, increasing food and beverage sales.
The Links Restaurant and Lounge transitioned to non-smoking in 2007, which also resulted in increased business.
Since the LPA took over the golf course and conference center in 2005, Dinnebier has overseen hard surfacing of both upper and lower parking lots, new signage, painting of the exterior and interior of the conference center, new carpeting, pool upgrades and new kitchen and office equipment.
This year the tennis courts were resurfaced, the front porch renovated, the registration/reception area upgraded, and a fitness facility created. LPA members receive a 10 percent discount off daily, monthly or annual fees for the fitness center.
Dinnebier appointed a six-member advisory committee in 2006 to review monthly financial reports and discuss ways to grow and improve the LPN. With Dinnebier’s assistance, this committee is spearheading a campaign to raise money for a new starter/snack building between the #1 and #10 tee boxes. More than $80,000 has been raised so far and plans are being finalized to have a new building in place for the 2008 golf season.
