Dear Members:
It looks as though winter is finally going to make an
appearance at the lake. Forecast calls
for plenty of rain and snow so I hope everyone has had a chance to take
advantage of the great weather we have had over the past couple of months.
I believe this is the first time we have recorded
significant rounds of golf played in each month of the year. On New Year’s Eve we had 52 rounds played and
in January a total of 149 rounds recorded.
Thanks to all that paid their 2012 golf dues. I appreciate your continued support in the
LPN.
Thank you for all the positive comments regarding the new
menu and the opening for breakfast on the weekends. Our restaurant business is
up significantly since the beginning of the year and breakfast business should
do nothing but continue to increase as more individuals become aware of our new
offerings. Plans are to expand on days
open for breakfast as the busy season gets closer.
Our new booths are scheduled to arrive on Monday to give the
Links Lounge a new look. A special thank
you to the Iowa Industrial Tools Group for their generous donation to make the new
booths a reality in memory of Mr. Charles Iler. Thank you to all of those who
have donated time and money to the LPN over the years. As I look back at some
of the projects that have been completed, it is most fair to say that some
would not have been completed without the generosity of our members and guests. We truly have a special place.
I hope this note finds everyone healthy and well. Only about 5 to 6 weeks until spring. What a wonderful winter we have had so
far. I hope we don’t end up paying for
it in the next few weeks.

The Links Valentine Sweetheart Special:

The Links Restaurant & Lounge:
We are excited to share the new Links menu with you for
2012. We have added a number of new items that will soon become one of your
favorite items to enjoy at the Links. New appetizers, salads, sandwiches, pizzas and desserts are on the menu now.
The Links Restaurant will also be Open for Breakfast on
Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM in 2012. Come in and enjoy our grand slams, griddles,
omelettes and more for breakfast.

Spikes:
Spikes is officially closed for the reminder of the season.
Food and beverage can be purchased either in the pro shop or
at the Links Restaurant & Lounge.
Spikes can also be rented for private parties or

Lake Panorama National Inn & Suites:
Lake Panorama National Inn & Suites offers on site
lodging accommodations for your stay at the Resort. The lodging facilities overlook the
magnificent golf course and are located within walking distance of the Conference Center
Lake Panorama National Inn & Suites offers two
bedroom/two bathroom town homes or motel units that feature two double beds or
one queen bed. All guests at the Resort
have access to the many amenities the Resort offers.
Townhome units are $200 from April 1st –
September 30th and $150 from October 1st – March 31st.
Motel Units are $79 from April 1st – September 30th
and $59 from October 1st – March 31st.

The Brokers International Ltd. Iowa Open will be played
August 16 – 19, 2012. The Iowa Section
PGA, Brokers International Ltd. and Lake Panorama National Resort are excited for
year two of the championship as it will continue to get bigger and better every
year.
2012 Golf Membership Information:
We would like to thank you for another great year in 2011 at
Lake Panorama, your support continues to showcase how special a place Lake
Panorama is. Your staff is already gearing up to ensure your 2012 golf season
will be the best ever.
As part of our planning for 2012, we conducted a
cost/revenue analysis of the rounds played this year. Just less than 27,000 rounds
of golf were played at LPN in 2011. Expenses for the golf operation and grounds
maintenance were about $500,000, which translated into a per-round cost of
$18.51.
We took the analysis one step further and looked at member
and non-member rounds and related revenue. We found each member round brought
in $16.98, with each non-member round at $24.89. Members accounted for 49% of
the rounds.
This analysis demonstrated two things. One, the LPN needs
both member and non-member rounds to pay the bills, as costs to maintain our
outstanding golf course continue to rise. Two, memberships, trail fees and
member range fees didn’t cover the per-round costs for members in 2011. For
2012, some increases are being made in our daily and stay-and-play fees. We
also determined a dues increase of about 10% is necessary for members.
Below you’ll also find information on 2012 events and
Special and Distance membership applications. Special Memberships are limited
to those who were not LPN members in 2011. Distance Memberships are for people
who are not LPA members, and do not have a residence within 18 miles of LPN.
Please think about people who might be interested in an LPN
membership. You will receive a $50 Pro Shop Merchandise credit for every new
membership you sign up for 2012. You also will receive two free rounds of golf
when we receive your 2012 membership application and payment.
To add more value to your LPN membership, we are again
securing reciprocal agreements for 2012. We expect these to include Ames
G&CC, Bent Tree GC (Council Bluffs), Briarwood Club (Ankeny), Carroll CC,
Elmwood CC (Marshalltown), Fort Dodge CC, Indianola CC, Lake Creek GC (Storm
Lake), Legend Trail GC (Parkersburg), Waverly GC, Mason City CC, Spencer CC,
The Ridge GC (Sioux Center), Ottumwa CC, Landsmeer GC (Orange City), Willow
Creek (Lemars), Majestic Hills (Denison) and Atlantic G&CC.

Winter Golf Course Conditions:
The Golf Course will remain open for play as long as weather
and course turf conditions permit.
In our annual effort to protect our turfgrass during the
winter months and ensure course conditions are optimal for next spring, the
following maintenance has been completed.
Heavy Top Dressing of all the greens.
The Top Dress will remain on the greens over the winter for
turf protection. The Top Dressing will help protect the blades of grass by not
exposing the crown of the plant. Even though the course is open, the top
dressing is required for our greens and will hopefully help and limit the
damage to the plant’s crown caused by foot traffic.
CART PATH ONLY until next spring.
All golf carts must remain on the cart paths during your
round. This also includes remaining on the paths to and from the golf course.
The irrigation system has been shut down for the winter. Therefore, it is very
important that golf cart traffic remain off the turf.
Remember: Golf cart tracks made during the winter will still
be visible in the spring.
We hope the weather provides a couple more days of golf and
we ask that everyone help protect our turf during the upcoming winter months
2012 Stay & Play Golf Packages:
With a variety of Stay & Play Golf Packages offered
throughout the year, Lake Panorama National Resort treats groups to a
one-of-a-kind golf experience. Enjoy a great golf course, accommodations and
service at affordable rates, all in one location.
Guests may choose from either two bedroom/two bathroom
townhomes with kitchen/laundry amenities or motel units with two double beds or
one queen bed. Both townhome and motel units are located within walking
distance of the golf course and the Links Restaurant & Lounge.
For 2012, to help increase our availability to reserve your
groups Stay & Play, we are starting to take reservations in other townhome
units that are located across the street from our townhomes units. Once again we are offering a Free Golf
Package for a group that books for 12 or more people by March 31. Call to today
